Series Order tricks, shortcuts and examples.
A category of three, four or some numbers is given in the competitive examination. There is a mutual relationship among these numbers. The same relationship has to be understand and the same basis is to be increased further.
Examples :
1) What will be the next number in the following series.
3, 10, 31, 94, -----
Ans. :
Each terms is increasing by : ( n × 3 ) + 1.
Therefore, ( 3 × 3 ) + 1 = 10
( 10 × 3 ) + 1 = 31
( 31 × 3 ) + 1 = 94
( 94 × 3 ) + 1 = 283
Therefore, next number : 283.
2) Find the next order in the category.
1, 4, 9, 16, ----
Ans. :
Each term is a squares of consecutive numbers.
therefore, 5 × 5 = 25.
therefore, next number = 25.
Examples :
Q. What will be the next number in the following series.
1) 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, ----
Ans. :
The difference in each term is increasing in the form of consecutive numbers.
that is 3 + 3 = 6.
06 + 4 = 10.
10 + 5 = 15.
15 + 6 = 21.
21 + 7 = 28.
Therefore, Next number = 28.
2) 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, ------
Ans. :
Multiplying the previous term by two becomes the next term.
that is, 3 × 2 = 6
6 × 2 = 12
12 × 2 = 24
24 × 2 = 48
48 × 2 = 96
therefore, next number = 96
3) 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, -----
Ans. :
Four are added to each of its terms.
that is, 0 + 4 = 4
4 + 4 = 8
8 + 4 = 12
12 + 4 = 16
16 + 4 = 20.
therefore, next number = 20.
4) 15, 5, 17, 7, 19, 9, 21, -----
Ans. :
The above series is made up of a mixture of two series.
that is, 5 + 2 = 7
7 + 2 = 9
9 + 2 = 11.
therefore, next number = 11.
5) 15, 16, 19, 20, 23, 24, ----
Ans. :
This is a series in which one is added in one term and then three are added in the next term.
that is, 15 + 1 = 16
16 + 3 = 19
19 + 1 = 20
20 + 3 = 23
23 + 1 = 24
24 + 3 = 27.
therefore, next number = 27.
6) NOA, PQB, RSC, ?
a) TUD. b) DTU. c) ENO. d) FNQ
Ans. :
The first two - two letters are taken continuously from the middle of the English alphabet and the third letter is taken from the beginning.
therefore, ans. = TUD.
7) 66, 56, 48, --- , 38, 36.
Ans. :
Each term of the series is decreasing by an difference of 10, 8, 6, ......
that is, 36 + 2 = 38
38 + 4 = 42
42 + 6 = 48
48 + 8 = 56
56 + 10 = 66
therefore, ans. = 42
8) 2, 3, 6, 15, 42, ?
Ans. :
The difference of the terms of the series is 1, 3, 9, 27, 81 which is multiplied by 3 times each difference.
that is, 2 + 1 = 3
3 + 3 = 6
6 + 9 = 15
15 + 27 = 42
42 + 81 = 123.
Ans. = 123
9) 2, 8, 14, 20, -----
Ans. :
Each next term is six more than its previous number.
that is 2 + 6 = 8
8 + 6 = 14
14 + 6 = 20
20 + 6 = 26.
therefore, next number = 26.
10) 1, 2, 6, 21, ------
Ans. :
The term of the range is × 1 + 1, × 2 +2, × 3 +3, ------. The next term will be 21 × 4 + 4 = 88.
therefore, next number = 88.
11) AZ, CY, EX, -----
Ans. :
The order of the two letters in this category is as follows. The first letter is written in ascending order of the alphabet and the second is written in descending order of the alphabet.
therefore, ans. = GW
