Age word problems

1) The age ratio of Ram and Hari is 3:5 . If the sum of their ages is 56 years, how old is Hari today?
Ans. : Hari's Age = { ( Hariys age ratio ) / The sum of his age ratios ) } × The sum of  their ages.
Hari's Age = { 5 / ( 3 + 5 ) } × 56
                    = ( 5 / 8 ) × 56
                    = 5 × 7
                    = 35.
therefore, Hari's age = 35 years old.

2) The age ratio of Ram and Hari is 2 : 7 . If the sum of their ages is 72 years, how old is Ram today?
Ans. : Ram's Age = { ( Ram's age ratio ) / The sum of his age ratios ) } × The sum of  their ages.
Hari's Age = { 2 / ( 2 + 7 ) } × 72
                    = ( 2 / 9 ) × 72
                    = 2 × 8
                    = 16
therefore, Ram's age = 16 years old.

3) The age ratio of Ram and Ganesh is 2: 7 and their age difference is 25 years. So how old is Ram today?
Ans. : Ram's age = { ( Ram's age ratio ) / ( The difference of his age ratios ) } × The difference in their ages.
Ram's age = { 2 / ( 7 - 2 ) } × 25
                    = ( 2 / 5 ) × 25
                    = 2 × 5
                    = 10.
therefore, Ram's age = 10 years old.

4) The age ratio of Ram and Ganesh is 3 : 5 and their age difference is 20 years. So how old is Ganesh today?
Ans. : Ganesh's age = { ( Ganesh's age ratio ) / ( The difference of his age ratios ) } × The difference in their ages.
Ram's age = { 5 / ( 5 - 3 ) } × 20
                    = ( 5 / 2 ) × 20
                    = 5 × 10
                    = 50.
therefore, Ram's age = 50 year old.

5) The age ratio of Ram and Shyam is 2: 3 and their age is multiplied by 216. So take out Ram's age?
Ans. :
Ram's age = { ( Ram's age ratio ) / The multiplication of his age ratio ) } × ( the multiplication of their ages )
Ram's age = { 2 / ( 2 × 3 ) } × 216.
                    = ( 2 / 6 ) × 216
now, 216 / 6 = 36
36 square root is 6.
therefore, 2 × 6 = 12.
therefore, Ram's age = 12 years old.

6) The age ratio of Ram and Shyam is 3: 7 and their age is multiplied by 189. So take out Shyam's age?
Ans. :
Shyam's age = { ( Shyam's age ratio ) / The multiplication of his age ratio ) } × ( the multiplication of their ages )
Shyam's age = { 7 / ( 3 × 7 ) } × 189.
                    = ( 7 / 21 ) × 189
now, 189 / 21 = 9
9 square root is 3.
therefore, 7 × 3 = 21.
therefore, Ram's age = 21 years old.

7) The age ratio of L, M and N is 2: 5: 4. If M is 20 years old, find the ages of L and N.
Ans. :
L    :    M    :    N
2    :    5     :    4
M is 20 years old. Multiplying M by 4 gives 20. So L and N also multiply by 4.
therefore, L's age = 2 × 4 = 8 years olds. and N's age = 4 × 4 = 16 years olds.
